SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Plenary of the Parliament of the Canary Islands has approved this Wednesday a Proposal No of Law (PNL) of Sí Podemos in which the Government of the Canary Islands is urged to abandon the construction of the port of Fonsalía (Guía de Isora) with the votes in favor of Yes Podemos, CC-PNC and Nueva Canarias and the abstention of the PSOE, plus the rejection of PP, ASG and Cs.
In addition, and with amendments by the Nationalist Group, the search for alternatives to improve maritime traffic between Tenerife and the ‘green islands’ was unanimously approved.
The spokesman for Sí Podemos, Manuel Marrero, has indicated that the “last death throes” of the Fonsalía port project are being lived, which is going to remain in a “frustrated attempt”, since it is an “impossible mission” to carry it out from the point from an environmental point of view.
He has commented that his group has always been positioned “in a resounding no” because the project is not justified from any prism and has celebrated the changes of position of almost all the groups, such as CC, which has turned to no.
Marrero has commented that there are more than 417,000 signatures against the port and defended that the “alternative” involves the refurbishment of the port of Los Cristianos and the readjustment of schedules and accesses.
Socorro Beato, from the Grupo Nacionalista, has commented that CC de Tenerife has definitively rejected the project due to the impact on cetaceans and protected species and after a process of internal debate and reflection.
MORTGAGE THE FUTURE, ACCORDING TO CC-PNC
He has said that his party gives a “resounding no” because the impact statement has expired and is “impossible” to overcome, prioritizing the ecological defense of the island and preventing initiatives like this from “mortgaging” the future of the next generations.
However, he has called for the connectivity between Tenerife and the green islands to be improved.
Nira Fierro, from the Socialist Group, has confessed “scared” by the change of CC on the project because it is going to surpass the Socialists “on the left”, stressing that analyzing this project “is an exercise of responsibility.”
For this reason, he has defended the macro-study commissioned by the Government and the Council of Tenerife to evaluate all the possible options regarding the improvement of maritime connectivity and has said that they will be “consistent” with the environmental commitment and in solving “historical problems “. “The Government will do things well and will do them well-founded,” he indicated.
Ricardo Fernández (Cs) has valued that decisions are to be made “with data” and the port of Fonsalía is a strategic infrastructure that had become the only alternative to the collapse of Los Cristianos.
He has criticized the “passivity” and “administrative neglect” of the regional government to carry out the project and has asked that it stop “putting obstacles” to the economic development of the island.
Jesús Ramos (ASG) recalled that the project already had an approved environmental impact statement and now, although they are in favor of the studies being commissioned, he understands that there is a “collapse” in Los Cristianos that must be corrected.
NC CRITICIZES THE “TOZUDEZ” FOR BETTING ON THE PROJECT
Carmen Hernández (NC) has criticized the “stubbornness” of some political groups for wanting to maintain this project “when the data is overwhelming” and there are more than 400,000 people against it, which means governing the citizens with their backs.
He has said that the project is an “environmental attack” and the development policy is “against” the century that we have to live, and with an investment of around 200 million that is not justified.
Manuel Domínguez, from the Popular Group, has commented that it is “amazing” to see how in June the port of Fonsalía was supported in Parliament and now everyone “has dropped their masks”, especially criticizing CC, which promoted building a highway to get to the port “and now it’s an attack.”
He has criticized that “nothing” was said either about the expiration of the environmental impact statement and has asked “what are they going to do” if the studies say that the port of Los Cristianos cannot grow and some smaller action must be taken.
