The Governing Board of the Santa Cruz City Council approved yesterday the call for subsidies for the installation of security systems in city taxis for a figure of 140,000 euros, at the proposal of the Public Services area. The purpose of the subsidy is to promote the installation of screens and surveillance cameras that allow the recording of images inside the vehicle.

The first deputy mayor and mayor of Public Services, Díaz Guerra, stated that “with this call we comply with a historic commitment to provide taxis with self-protection measures, either against attacks or robberies or against the virus. They are small investments that will be retroactive, that is, those who have made them will also be able to benefit from the subsidy “, and added that” with this, what we want from the City Council is to improve safety and quality of service. “

These are preventive and dissuasive measures that are intended to protect taxi drivers and citizens from the dangerous situations in which this group finds itself on a daily basis. These cameras would only record inside the vehicle, and as security of the same, being disabled the recording to the outside. Nor could the data be transferred to third parties, except legal obligation.

The amount allocated to this subsidy amounts to 140,000 euros, although this amount may be extendable, in which The maximum amount of aid will amount to 100% of the investment cost, without being able to exceed 300 euros for the installation of surveillance cameras, and 60 euros for the installation of partitions. You will be able to jointly opt for both grants.

Likewise, the mayor of Public Services, Guillermo Díaz Guerra, pointed out that the deadline for submitting applications is 15 calendar days from the day following the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province.

Finally, to attend this call, it is necessary to be holders of a municipal car taxi license on the date of approval of the call.
