“’Retrospective’ brings together different works from my career. One part is part of a project called ‘Islands’, created for an exhibition in the Santo Domingo Convent that thwarted the pandemic. And another work that confinement gave me the opportunity to finish and that I had pending for a long time ”, explains the author himself.

“Human beings have always felt the need to express themselves through drawings, paintings and other artisan or artistic disciplines”, clarifies Benito Salmerón.

“A circumstance that greatly encourages us to do this is intimacy or isolation, and this is what we have had to live in this pandemic, a long isolation that in my case made me spend long hours in the study, that the looking back at old works, some finished and others not, that I decided to finish, catalog and exhibit all of them in this exhibition that, because it contains both old and current pieces, I could not find a better title than ‘Retrospective’ ”.

Salmerón shows some 35 paintings and a dozen wall sculptures. “The above is very diverse. We find a lot of island theme, related to the sea, with islands in general, many ‘suns’ and many ‘moons’ as well. You don’t see a single line of work. Throughout my career I have been very restless, I have always been investigated and those lines of work so eclectic that I say are seen in this exhibition of the Circle ”.

“I had not exhibited at Recreo for many years and I was already looking forward to going back. And I do it, of course, from the hand of Don Joaquín Castro ”, says the creator.

Benito Salmerón has a long career as a creator since his first solo show in 1988. He has exhibited both in the Canary Islands and in the Peninsula, where he currently has his own gallery located in Albacete capital and has also exhibited at important art fairs such as: Art-Event 2004 Belgium, Artexpo 2007 New York, Forlifiera 2009 Italy or Lineart 2011 Belgium
