The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce finances this action with just over two million euros, under the agreement for the Rehabilitation of Infrastructures and Equipment in Tourist Areas signed with the Secretary of State for Tourism, and it is the Cabildo de Tenerife that will carry them out, informs the Canarian Executive in a statement.
The Regional Vice Minister of Tourism, Teresa Berástegui; the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pedro Martín; and the mayor, María Concepción Brito, have visited the area accompanied by the general director of Tourist Infrastructure, Fernando Miñarro; and the insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, as well as the president of the Association of Neighbors ‘El Pueblito’, Fernando Rodríguez.
The works that are being carried out consist of increasing the spatial and environmental quality of the promenade, enhancing the direct perception of the coast, the accesses to the promenade from the upper part and the resting places from which to contemplate the sea.
The execution period is until January 2023 and the project contemplates the reinterpretation of the cross section between the city and the sea; the widening of the promenade to turn it into a free space for the recreation of the neighbors; the creation of leisure spaces at the edge of the sea (such as a playground, sports area, fishing areas, terraces for shops and access to the sea); the provision of the necessary services to the beach; the renovation of the facilities that need it; and the replacement of the pavement that is necessary.
This project is related to the remodeling of the Graciliano Ruíz Rodríguez promenade, which has the same execution period and which includes the adaptation of this area, as far as possible, to the accessibility regulations; the differentiated resurfacing for each one of the uses; the resolution of the drainage of the promenade and the surrounding streets (Acaymo, Agarfa, Amiche and Garoé); the replacement of existing facilities and infrastructures in the area; the placement of new vegetation according to the area in which it is located, and correct lighting.
The objective, says Teresa Berástegui, is to promote interventions in all those infrastructures that generate added value to the destination, “so that they can improve these environments both for those who visit the island and for the residents of the area.”
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has expressed his confidence that this action will recover the attractiveness of this area of Candelaria, “with an accessible promenade and adequate spaces to see the sea.”
In that sense, he assures that the next step will be the performance on the beach. “We are already working on the project and I am convinced that very soon we will be able to carry it out and provide Las Caletillas with a beach suitable for everyone”.
Laura Castro, for her part, has valued the role of the ‘El Pueblito’ Neighborhood Association, and assures that it has been a “fundamental” part to be able to carry out this project, “which has already begun to become a reality, and for the that everyone had been waiting for a long time. ”
The president of the Association of Neighbors ‘El Pueblito’, Fernando Rodríguez, appreciates the support of all the institutions to carry out the reform of the promenade and its surroundings.
The granting of this aid to the Cabildo is part of the actions that the Ministry of Tourism is carrying out in all the islands during the last year within the Tourism Infrastructure Action Plan, “and in which priority has been given to the creation of efficient, accessible and compatible spaces with the natural environment “, concludes Miñarro.
