The SPAR Gran Canaria 2021-22 begins its preseason today after a score of days of hard work. This first preparation test takes the yellow teams to the Juan Ríos Tejera Pavilion in La Laguna, in Tenerife, where they have Clarinos as their rival (5:00 p.m.), one of the leading teams in the Endesa Women’s League with which the Gran Canaria squad returns to share a poster in this new course within the highest category of national women’s basketball. After the first leg of this summer Canarian derby, both teams meet again on Sunday, this time at the La Paterna Pavilion (12 noon).
Two duels that SPAR Gran Canaria is heading towards with its sights set on its official debut. This coincides with the return to Europe of the club. On the 23rd of this month, in England, the pupils of José Carlos Ramos, who will lead the technical baton for the second consecutive season, will face the first duel of the Eurocup tie against the London Lions.
This pairing will live its resolution a week later in the Arena and will place the winner in the group stage of the tournament. In between, debut in the league competition, on Saturday 25, visiting Gernika.
The objective is to reach an optimal level for the Eurocup match against the London Lions on the 23rd.
And on that route that begins this afternoon in Tenerife and will end in London, the SPAR Gran Canaria meets a weight rival to calibrate its competitive level at this point, the Clarinos, sixth last year in the national competition and also will play in Europe.
A fairly remodeled yellow painting is presented today at the Santiago Martín Pavilion. It has been back to bet on young players. Apart from Belgian international Hanne Mestdagh (28 years old), the rest of the squad have little experience in the elite. Blanca Millán, Elma Dautovic, Valerie Nesbitt, Maya Caldwell and Lydia Giomi are some of the additions. Highlight the return home of Conchi Mongomo, from León, after a long stay in Canada, and of Zenaida Pérez, who rejoins the club from which she left in 2018.
Germany’s Hartmann is in her second season and will continue to have Malian Sika Koné and Senegalese Adji Fall as partners. All this, seasoned with the juniors who conquered the National 2021 in Huelva, who are joining the dynamics of the first team.
