The deputies of the PP in Congress Ana Zurita and Sebastian Ledesma demand that the Government of the Canary Islands process a new environmental impact statement for the port of Fonsalía and they propose that traffic from Los Cristianos to Granadilla be derived.
In a statement, the popular parliamentarians report the presentation of various initiatives in the Lower House to learn “the future plans” of the Government regarding the port of Fonsalía.
In a non-law proposal, Zutira asks that the project not be abandoned and that the competent administrations “put the batteries” given the “unanimous agreement” existing around it between “the political, business and social forces of the island” .
Zurita believes that the Government of the Canary Islands “is already taking time” to process a new environmental impact statement for the infrastructure “that respects the requirements of the ZEC Rasca-Teno.”
In addition, it considers “absolutely necessary a greater involvement” of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the development of a strategic document that affects “the rationalization of the use and management” of existing infrastructures.
In this sense, it proposes diverting traffic from the port of Los Cristianos to that of Granadilla to avoid “the chaos” experienced in the former recently, which “has left the tourist image of Tenerife on the ground.”
The PP deputies will ask the new Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, “if she thinks that the port of Fonsalía continues to be a strategic infrastructure for the Government.”
Also “if there is coordination in environmental matters with the different departments involved, if they have carried out procedures for assigning land to the Public Port Domain and if the State has studied the transfer of traffic from the port of Los Cristianos to that of Granadilla.”
