The ICHH maintains an active network of collection points for blood donation

The Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH), dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands alerts on the decrease in blood reserves if the number of donations does not increase in the coming weeks.

In addition to the possibility of donating blood in public hospitals in the Archipelago, and fixed donation points, the ICHH keeps active for the next week temporary extraction points on the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

In the Canary Islands they need 300 daily donations to meet the needs of hospital centers and that is why it is necessary to maintain a constant number of donations throughout the year, every 3 months for men and every 4 months for women.

The ICHH insists the population in planning blood donations before or during the holidays, especially those who plan to travel outside the Archipelago.

Where to donate in Fuerteventura

In Fuerteventura you can donate blood from this Monday, August 23 until September 10 at the Fuerteventura-Norte Senior Center, located at Calle Milagrosa, number 49, in Corralejo. Donor service hours will be from Monday to Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The fixed point of blood donation of the Canarian Transfusion Network on the island is the General Hospital of Fuerteventura, and its hours are from Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (except holidays). To donate it is convenient to request an appointment in the number 928 546 684.

Where to donate in Tenerife

A new temporary donation point opens this Monday 23 in Villa de La Orotava, in the Camino de las Dehesas Neighbors Association, Risco Caído street, number 5. Donors will be attended on the first day of collection from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 5.15 pm to 8.30 pm. Then the hours from Monday to Friday will be from 10.14 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 5.15 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. The last day, Friday, September 3, the hours will be the usual except for the afternoon shift that ends at 8:00 p.m.

In the town of Tejina, within the municipality of La Laguna, you can donate in the Parish Halls located in Plaza San Bartolomé, number 1, until August 27. Donor service hours from Monday to Thursday will be from 5.15 pm to 8.30 pm and on the last day of collection, from 9:45 am to 1.30 pm.

Monday, August 23 is the last of the donation point located at the La Villa Cultural Center, in the municipality of Candelaria, with hours from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 5.15 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

From Tuesday, August 24 to Friday, August 27, a new donation point is activated in the municipality of El Rosario, in the Farmer’s Market of La Esperanza, on Camino de Peñafiel street, La Esperanza general highway (TF-24 ), Km 7.8. Tuesday’s hours will be from 10.15 a.m. to 1.45 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8.45 p.m., on Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 1.45 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. and on Friday it will be from 10 a.m. to 1.45 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7.45 p.m.

There are also two fixed points, the Provincial Bank of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located at Calle Méndez Núñez number 14 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, operating from Monday to Friday from 9.15 a.m. to 2.15 p.m. and from 3.15 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., upon request for an appointment. . This point has a parking ford for donors at the door.

In the south of the island there is a fixed point of extraction in the San Isidro Health Center, in Granadilla de Abona, with hours of attention to donors from Monday to Thursday from 1:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., requesting appointment. It also has a parking space reserved for donors.

And as regards the fixed points of the Canarian Transfusion Network, at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias you can donate from Sunday to Friday and holidays from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and from 3.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Where to donate in Gran Canaria

In Arucas it also hosts a new temporary donation point from August 25 to September 15. Donors will be attended from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. except for the first day, on Wednesday whose hours are from 5:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. and the last day will be the usual double shift but the closing will be at 8:15 p.m. hours.

In Agaete, specifically in the Popular Park, located at Calle Juan de Armas, number 6, a temporary extraction point is also active until Tuesday, August 24. Monday hours are from 5.15pm to 8.30pm and Tuesday from 10.15am to 1pm.

The temporary donation point in the Alcampo Shopping Center (Telde) continues to operate in the room next to the Lottery Administration, it will be attended on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Thursday at double shift, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

In the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana there is a temporary donation point in the new City Hall building, in front of the Municipal Pavilion, on Las Tirajanas avenue, and the opening hours from Monday to Thursday will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 20:30.

The blood donation point located inside the 7 Palmas Shopping and Leisure Center in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, located on Pintor Felo Monzón avenue, on the 1st floor next to Cortefiel in hours from 9.45 am to 2.00 pm and from 4.45 pm to 9.00 pm.

In the capital of Gran Canaria, a new temporary blood donation point will be opened in the Association of Neighbor Rayco de Lomo Los Frailes, on Capernaún Street, number 18 in front of Betonia Park, from Thursday, August 26 to September 16, Monday to Friday from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., except for the first day of collection, which will be from 5:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the last day, from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The temporary extraction point of San Mateo, in the municipal premises located next to the old school, on Calle Doctor Jacinto Rodríguez Mejía, number 6, is active until August 26. Donation hours from Monday to Wednesday will be from 10.15 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 5.15 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and on Thursday from 10.15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Regarding the fixed points of blood extraction, the ICHH makes its headquarters available to the population in the street at Alfonso XIII, number 4, in the capital of Gran Canaria, from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and from 3:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (It has a ford for donors). You need to make an appointment.

You can also go to other fixed points of the Canarian Transfusion Network such as the Maternal-Infant University Hospital of the Canary Islands from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:30; the Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín, from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. and the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria, where you can donate from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. cases). It is not necessary to make an appointment at these points.

Where to donate blood in Lanzarote

The blood bank of the Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa is operational on weekdays from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., by requesting an appointment by calling 928 595 572, option 3.

Where to donate blood on La Palma

The extraction room of the General Hospital of La Palma is open every day of the year, including holidays, from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. You must call to make an appointment by phone 922 185 320 or 922 185 312.

Where to donate blood in La Gomera

The extraction unit of the Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe provides service from Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except holidays. To donate blood at this point you can make an appointment by calling 922 140 200 or 922 140 213 or by filling in the appointment form published on the web donation effect.com.

Where to donate blood in El Hierro

The Hospital Nuestra Señora de Los Reyes has an extraction point available on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except holidays, by calling for an appointment at 690 886 059 or 922 553 523.

Donation requirements and protocols

The basic requirements to donate blood are to be in good general health, be between 18 and 65 years of age, weigh more than 50 kg and, in the case of women, not be pregnant.

In addition, in the current circumstances it is necessary to meet some specific requirements such as: not having cough or respiratory symptoms, not having been diagnosed or having been in contact with people affected by covid-19 and not having traveled outside of Spain in the last 14 days.

Interested people can answer this self-assessment questionnaire to find out if they can donate blood before making an appointment or going to the donation room: donation-effect.com/test-to-find-if-you-can- donate-blood.

The ICHH advises donors of the importance of notifying them in the event that an unforeseen event arises that prevents them from attending a confirmed appointment, so that another person can occupy that position and thus guarantee the intended donation objective.

To donate blood it is necessary to make an appointment by calling 012 or 928 301 012 – 922 470 012 (option 8) from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or by completing the form published on the front page of the website:donation effect.com.

The ICHH also recalls that people vaccinated against covid-19, both with one and two doses, can donate blood after 48 hours after inoculation.
