The Vilaflor de Chasna City Council has appointed Nelson Díaz Frías, the writer, historian and magistrate judge dean of the Judicial Party of Arona as the official chronicler of the municipality. The official act of the nomination will take place next Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the church square.

The new chronicler told DIARIO DE AVISOS that the appointment is a “great honor, especially when I am not a native of Vilaflor, but from Arona”, although he stressed that he feels very closely related to the municipality as his parents and four grandparents were born in this town and “they have always known how to convey that pride and affection for my roots”.

Díaz Frías has always shown great interest in learning about the history of the town and the origin of its inhabitants. In fact, his first article in the press, published in 1990, was dedicated to the municipality under the title The historical-artistic heritage of Vilaflor de Chasna; the need for your conversation.

Since then he has written numerous articles on the history of the municipality and its region, although his main work would arrive in 2002 when Historia de Vilaflor de Chasna was released, an extensive book that includes a detailed study on the origin and evolution of this locality.

“I believe that this appointment of official chronicler of the municipality is due to the fact that I have been investigating the history, roots and origin of the inhabitants of the region for more than 30 years,” said the writer and historian, architect of the fact that the City Council changed the official name of the municipality – from Vilaflor to Vilaflor de Chasna – after completing a rigorous historical report and intense pedagogical work.

Nelson Díaz Frías keeps his research vocation intact. “I continue to fight to bring to light the history and heritage of the municipality,” he says, and in this line he announced to this newspaper the next publication of a book entitled Linajes chasneros, the result of “a thorough and rigorous study of the origin of all the families of the municipality of Vilaflor de Chasna from the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th century ”.
