SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Federation of Industry, Construction and Agro, a sectoral federation that makes up the General Union of Workers (UGT FICA) in the Canary Islands, has called for measures to save JSP-Celgán and the nearly 3,000 jobs that depend on the company.
As reported by UGT FICA in a statement, Celgán is a “strategic” company for the islands, on which 500 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect ones depend.
In this way, the secretary of the Agrifood Sector of UGT FICA in the Canary Islands, Sebastián Serena, held a meeting last Tuesday with UGT delegates in the JSP-Celgán Group and with representatives of the UGT FICA Canarias manager, with the aim of analyzing the situation the company is going through and the bankruptcy scenario faced by the group, dedicated to the food sector.
At this meeting it was agreed to prioritize the maintenance of employment, on which nearly 3,000 families depend, including those from the Madrid Tartas y Cafés plant, located in Getafe.
With this main objective, it was agreed to request meetings, both with interested investors, as well as with the Bankruptcy Administration and the Judiciary of the Bankruptcy. In addition, they also determined to demand the same objectives from financial institutions, as well as “more efforts and commitment” to the Government of the Canary Islands in the search for solutions.
