Cabildo, Aena, and Interior to Examine Tenerife Sur Passport Control Collapse Next Week
The headquarters of the Government Delegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a three-way meeting next Wednesday at 09:00 AM between the Cabildo, Aena, and the Ministry of the Interior to seek solutions to the congestion occurring at the passport control in Tenerife South airport. This was announced at a press conference by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, who lamented the “back-and-forth” between Aena and the ministry because they “are blaming each other and not providing a solution.” According to Dávila, the airport manager suggests it is a problem of “staff during peak hours when a significant number of planes arrive,” while the Interior Ministry asks for better management of the infrastructure and slots “so they don’t all arrive at the same time, but it’s true that it was a foreseeable situation, the airport’s capacity was what it was.” The president insisted that “they need to provide a solution” because Brexit has been known since 2016 and effective since 2020, and Tenerife “will not accept” that “they blame each other” within the Spanish Government itself. “Meanwhile, nothing gets done,” she added. In her opinion, “it is not possible for these incidents to continue; they must reach an agreement for better airport infrastructure management and an increase in the number of National Police officers assigned to the airport.”
