The Plenary of Los Realejos unanimously approved a partial modification of the General Urban Plan concerning the uses of the plot where the Town Hall plans to build the municipal swimming pool and sports complex. This procedure, promoted by the Municipal Urban Planning Management, is the necessary step to put the execution of this much-requested infrastructure out to tender for 8,195,562 euros.
The first phase will consist of building the new swimming pool with three sections for training, rehabilitation or therapeutic, and beginner purposes. Once this phase is completed, the current aquatic activity will move to this part of the new infrastructure, converting the current pool into the dry sports area of the complex, which will house a gym, training rooms, cafeteria, multipurpose uses, and complementary services.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González, thanked the Cabildo de Tenerife for “understanding the priority of this project and its contribution to the economic effort to develop it, as well as all the municipal technical personnel involved in each prior step to tackle infrastructure of this magnitude.” In this regard, he recalled that it has required urban studies, economic feasibility, usage, basic project, drafting of the definitive project, complementary geotechnical studies, and the partial modification of planning. The mayor pointed to “intense negotiations with the aforementioned island administration or those we are trying to reach with the Government of the Canary Islands,” with the aim of starting the construction “in the second half” of this year.
About the current plot
The councilor for Urban Planning, Noelia González, argued that the execution of the new pool and sports complex “has been projected over the entire surface of the plot located behind the current pool,” which required the specific modification of the PGO approved by the Plenary. “That’s where the first phase of the construction work would begin, as well as on the very surface of the current infrastructure, where intervention will occur in a second phase.”
The basic project for the new swimming pool and sports complex in Los Realejos was drafted by 2RAEstudio Engineering and Architecture under architect Pablo Cionfrini-Lezzi, while the execution project was drafted by the UTE Realejos Bonilla González of the architects José María González Ibáñez and Germán Bonilla Montijano. n
