Under Investigation for Abandoning Three Dogs, Two Cats, and a Rabbit in Icod de los Vinos

The Civil Guard is investigating a person in Tenerife for an alleged crime against animals due to the evident signs of neglect and lack of food and water found in a home with three dogs, two cats, and a rabbit.

A note from the Civil Guard reports that several residents of Icod de los Vinos had alerted to a strong smell of decay in a house in the municipality, and when officers arrived at the premises, they confirmed the unsanitary and unhygienic conditions in which the animals lived.

The animals, according to the Civil Guard’s account, were living with their excrement and waste, infested with flies and other insects, and showed clear signs of malnutrition, dehydration, and muscular weakness.

The immediate removal of the animals for care and recovery was arranged, with the collaboration of Citizen Security officers of the Civil Guard of Puerto de la Cruz and the Local Police of Icod de los Vinos, and they were sent to an animal shelter under veterinary supervision, services provided by the municipality’s City Council.

Additionally, the animals lacked any veterinary record, and only two of them had microchips, despite it being a mandatory requirement since 2023.

Meanwhile, SEPRONA agents, with the collaboration of Citizen Security officers of the Civil Guard, began investigations to locate and identify the alleged responsible party, who was found on the same day of the events.

The investigated individual, along with the original investigation files, have been placed at the disposal of the court, acting as a duty judge, in Icod de los Vinos.
