The first two phases of the Master Plan and the remodeling of Las Balieras Park total three million euros of investment and mark the beginning of the transformation of Puertito de Güímar. The execution of the project for the new plaza, which will provide the town with a healthy leisure space by the sea, is in the bidding phase; the first phase of the park is awarded for 849,971 euros with a maximum execution period of six months.
The plaza is part of the Puertito Master Plan, a project funded by the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Güímar Town Council, whose first action began last March and aims to transform 1.2 kilometers of coastline from the Nautical Club to the Cho Regino Caves.
It includes enhancing the spatial and environmental quality of the promenade alongside the beach and boosting the direct perception of the coast, its accesses, and resting places by the sea. To encourage the connection of the new plaza with the beach itself, the retaining wall will become a grandstand. In this way, the project will foster the creation of leisure spaces at the water’s edge and contemplation sites, with abundant vegetation and a shaded area equipped with benches for use as a viewpoint.
The second phase of this project includes increasing the gardened area and shaded zones, as well as constructing new sea accesses.
The mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez, considers this work “a success for the residents of Puertito de Güímar, who were involved in drafting the project by conveying the neighborhood’s needs to the Town Hall.” This was materialized through a process of consultations and meetings promoted by the municipal Corporation.
The Great Park
Another significant action for the town is the project in Las Balieras Park, set to become “the largest recreational area for children and youth in the municipality of Güímar.” Currently, the first phase of the works is already awarded, with a budget of 849,971 euros and a maximum execution period of six months.
With a surface area of 6,674 square meters (142 meters long and 47 meters wide), this space will be accessible and inclusive with 14 play elements. It will include a youth park located in the tree-covered area in the northwest and a shaded children’s park. Additionally, the amphitheater will be adapted as a venue for cultural events with the installation of an electrical supply point, the entire area will be equipped with lighting, feature perimeter fencing, three accesses, a large kiosk, and rest and play areas on the ground.
These actions are complemented, in parallel, with repaving the Pintora Isabel Pérez promenade and replacing the tree grates. The extension of Los Pescadores Avenue will also be resurfaced as a single platform, a space that will also feature youth play elements such as a zip line and a climbing wall.
The project includes an intervention on Pintor Tino Fariña Street, with the modification and expansion of the number of parking spaces, as well as the construction of new sidewalks.
