The Tourism Area of the Cabildo de Tenerife has announced on Wednesday that it already prepares a meeting call with the convening groups of the 18M protests to “evidence” the “real concern” that exists in the corporation to seek a “balance between the interests of the residents and the need to maintain tourist activity as a driver of the island”.

Rosa Dávila, one of the most criticized on 18m, says that “behind” the protests is the extreme left

The Cabildo de Tenerife intends to meet with 18M groups to “show” its work for “sustainable” tourism

This has been assured by the island vice president, Lope Afonso (PP), after having been asked about this question at a press conference after the Governing Council, where he has clarified that, as soon as the identity of the people who represent the groups, the calls will be referenced, the call will be launched, and it will be seen “if it will be seconded”.

“Tourism being the sector indicated by the conveners, from at least the tourist management of the island. We want to have the opportunity to show that there is serious, firm and active work, which seeks the balance between the interests of the residents and the need to maintain tourist activity as a driver of the island,” said Afonso.

It has also emphasized the “intention” and “for evidence” before “a part of public opinion” that there is “a real concern”, far from the holders, and with “effective” measures.

In this way, he has assured that as head of the tourism sector he has asked Tourism of Tenerife to prepare a call in the next few days, which will seek to be “reserved and discreet”, with the mood of showing “with evidence” the work that is currently done from the destination.

“Because of the mere fact that it seems that the movement is deflated, we will not stop listening and to address some of the issues that have been launched. We continue to develop the evolution measures of the tourist model, some of which connect with the goal of having a balanced island and with real sustainable development,” said the island vice president.

‘Canary Islands has a limit’, a call of 18M, requires paralyzing “illegal works” as a guarantee to meet with the institutions

Afonso has indicated that the purpose of listening to the corporation “is firm and real”, while until now the Cabildo has not responded to “any request” by the groups. From the tourist field, he has continued, there is now a step to try to “explain” what he performs and achieves from Tourism de Tenerife.
