The Fagundo farm will become a large green lung and nature classroom in Tenerife

The Fagundo farm, with more than 32 hectares among the municipalities of La Laguna and Tacoronte, will become one of the main green lungs of Tenerifea biodiversity refuge and an open -air educational space open to all citizens. Schools, families and associations can enjoy this natural environment, learn about the environment and actively participate in its conservation.

The Cabildo Governing Council has approved today the I commission the public company Gesplan to execute ecological restoration workwith an investment of 1,122,140 euros and a period of execution of 31 months. The action seeks to recover this natural space seriously affected by the 2022 forest fire, which calcined more than 50 % of its surface.

The farm, assigned to the council for the public entity ENAIRE Through an agreement signed last year, it will be reforested with native speciessafe paths will be enabled and low combustibility areas will be established to prevent future fires. Suitable habitats will also be created for local fauna, favoring their refuge and food.

One of the outstanding novelties of the project is the reserve from the land for fayas plantinga fundamental species to guarantee the sustainable supply of branches used in the elaboration of Tejina heartsa centenary tradition declared of cultural interest. With this, the project combines environmental sustainability and cultural preservation.

In addition, the Fagundo estate will include areas for the Citizen participationwith environmental volunteer campaigns, school activities and community days. This collaborative approach reinforces the commitment of the council with environmental education and the active involvement of society in the care of the natural environment.

With this intervention, the Cabildo de Tenerife It recovers a valuable natural space and makes it a strategic enclave for biodiversity, fire prevention and environmental educationwhile protecting one of the most beloved cultural manifestations of the island.
