A senior citizen has passed away in the municipality of La Laguna, Tenerife, following a significant explosion and a fire at a residence in the area, as reported by the local police on their social media on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 23:00 on Monday at a home on Verdugo and Massieu Street, in the La Cuesta neighbourhood. Nine individuals from nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution, according to sources.
Urban Planning officials have assessed the site prior to the temporary evacuation of six surrounding properties, and the street has been cordoned off due to considerable debris present on public pathways.
The locality is currently being monitored by both local and national police officers, alongside firefighters.
