The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, has formalised a collaboration agreement with the CEO of Spring Hotels, Miguel Villarroya, aimed at enhancing the promotion and marketing of Canarian agricultural products. This event also saw the participation of Juan Antonio Alonso, the CEO of Management of the Rural Environment of the Canary Islands (GMR Canary Islands), and Paola Plasencia, the CEO of Hemana.
This agreement sees GMR Canary Islands—a public enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture—partnering with Spring Hotels to execute innovative joint actions that will introduce the products of the Canarian primary sector to the clientele of the hotel chain. The aim is to enhance competitiveness within the sector, promote both economic and environmental sustainability, and strengthen the positioning of the Canary Islands as a gastronomic destination.
The minister articulated, “Through alliances like this, we showcase the excellence of our produce to visitors, amplifying the positive impact on our region while establishing a robust framework to create opportunities in the primary sector and bolster the local economy.”
He further noted that the evolving strategy has demonstrated that when the primary and tourism sectors collaborate, tangible benefits materialise for producers, businesses, and consumers alike; our aim is to persist in fostering this cooperation through more initiatives like the one held today (yesterday).
Spring Hotels CEO, Miguel Villarroya, expressed his contentment with the agreement, stating, “For our company, this is not merely a singular decision, but rather an additional step in our commitment to Canarian products and our environment.” He highlighted their previous collaboration with FAST, which has already aided over 400 local farmers through pioneering efforts, and noted, “We will now partner with this public entity to continue positioning the Canary Islands as a benchmark for product quality in the tourism sector.”
This agreement is part of the joint growth strategy of the Canary Islands Government, an initiative promoting synergies between the primary and tourism sectors.
The agreement prioritises facilitating the inclusion of local products in the culinary offerings at Spring Hotels establishments both in the Canary Islands and on the mainland, enhancing their presence in tourist and commercial channels. Regarding promotion, GMR Canarias will develop campaigns to highlight the unique qualities of Canarian agricultural products, targeting both customers and Spring Hotels staff. Additionally, in the realm of innovation, pilot tests and new practical experiences will be initiated to support local product consumption and explore collaboration opportunities between both sectors.
