Last Tuesday, unions representing the Santa Cruz Local Police convened a meeting at the Negotiation Table with the City Council, where one of the four focal points was the demand for “A dignified salary” for productivity of officers during the Carnival.
The Council allocates an additional 200 euros to the police officers “for working for a month,” noted the CSIF, “an amount established in 2004 when we had 414 officers; currently, we have 336, and we did not have carnival days or such significant impact at that time.”
The union called for an increase in this payment for officers who undertake specific shifts during the festive period, but the Human Resources Department has stated that this request has been turned down, as “we already receive 200 euros, which is the same for those on duty as for those on street patrol during those times,” said the CSIF. “This refusal contradicts the comments made by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, during the state of the city debate and is likely to provoke a conflict with the Council for not addressing a reasonable demand.”
