The Cabildo de Tenerife will deploy 70 ‘smart’ sensors to oversee 94 per cent of the island and avert wildfires, as announced by the president of the Insular Corporation, Rosa Dávila, on Wednesday.

Dávila, who appeared alongside third vice president José Carlos Acha, reported that during the Insular Governing Council meeting on Wednesday, the tender for a project encompassing a network of sensors across the island was approved. This will enable effective monitoring of the island’s territory.

The aim is to enhance emergency management and protect the environment, with the project entailing an investment of approximately 1.4 million euros and a timeframe of three years for execution.

The Cabildo stated that this system will aid in early detection of potential wildfires, as well as optimise the use of natural resources and bolster essential public services, such as transport and water management, through the deployment of these sensors.

Furthermore, during the Governing Council meeting, the final evaluation report from the Interdepartmental Commission was reviewed, which pertains to equal opportunities between women and men, conducted by the Insular Directorate of Equality and Diversity. The report indicates a compliance rate of 97% with the planned projects and initiatives for 2024.

In this context, Rosa Dávila affirmed that these figures demonstrate a “strong” commitment by the council to genuine equality and a move towards a more equitable and fair island.

José Carlos Acha announced the approval of an increase of nearly 120,000 euros for adapting the rehabilitation project of Fasnia’s old cinema to meet the latest technical regulations.

Consequently, the total investment for this initiative, which is part of the 2016-2028 Cultural Infrastructure Plan, amounts to 3.2 million euros.

Additionally, to promote traditional sports, a funding item of 75,846 euros has been approved to complete the financing of the Insular School of Lucha, managed by the public enterprise Ideco.
