SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –

The Insular Water Council (CIATF), an entity linked to the Cabildo de Tenerife, has received two proposals from specialised companies to carry out the rehabilitation works of the submarine emissary in the La Orotava Valley through an emergency procedure.

The project entails an investment of 2.7 million euros and has a timeframe of 16 months for completion once initiated.

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, notes in a statement that two submissions have been received, and the technical documentation now requires analysis before the works are awarded.

“We are addressing a long-standing issue that we have chosen to resolve with the support and collaboration of the City of Puerto de la Cruz,” she states.

Furthermore, the Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Safety and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, highlights that the new tender has been processed “in record time” using the emergency procedure.

“The staff of the Insular Water Council of Tenerife is already reviewing all the documentation to commence the work as swiftly as possible,” she comments.

Consequently, it is anticipated that the project may be awarded before the end of the first half of the year, although it is important to adhere to the procedures and timelines stipulated in the legislation for undertaking such actions.

The works related to the emissary are part of initiatives aimed at improving water treatment, which also include the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility in the La Orotava Valley (phase I), capable of serving 102,000 residents from the municipalities of La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, and Santa Úrsula.

This initiative involves replacing the submarine emissary in Punta Brava, specifically in a section currently made of PRFV (fibreglass reinforced polyester) where the fissure is situated, with a new HDPE (high-density polyethylene), thereby enhancing the current discharge situation.

Additionally, the replacement of caps is included in the emissary section where the prefabricated blocks, acting as deadweight anchors, have been lost, along with the anchoring of new ballast blocks for the diffuser area, considering the condition of the existing ones.
