The City Council of La Laguna, via the Department of Cemeteries, will present an emotional musical event this Sunday, 4th May, across the five cemeteries within the municipality to commemorate Mother’s Day. Entitled ‘Notes for a Mother’, the initiative has been curated by musicians Samuel Hernández Ávila and Mauro Fariña Alonso and will occur in the burial grounds of San Luis (La Laguna), San Juan (La Cuesta), San Sebastián (Tejina), Our Lady of Remedies (Valley of Guerra), and San Gregorio (Punta del Hidalgo).
The councillor for Cemeteries, Cristina Ledesma, stated that “the planned performances, lasting between 30 to 40 minutes, will feature a duo of wind instruments and piano alongside a brass quartet that will present a repertoire designed to emotionally support families opting to participate in this day dedicated to remembrance.”
The municipal mayor also emphasised that through ‘Notes for a Mother’, “we aim to enhance our commitment to raising awareness about the cemeteries of La Laguna, transforming them into spaces of respect and reflection, where individuals can feel at home, even in silence.”
Besides honouring mothers, this initiative also strives to highlight the societal significance of chamber music as a medium for emotional and communal expression, fostering collaborations with public institutions that promote cultural citizenship and wellbeing.
