Granadilla (Tenerife), 29 (Europa Press)

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, accompanied by the mayor of Granadilla de Abona, José Domingo Regalado, along with the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, and the Minister of Natural Resources, Blanca Pérez, visited the ongoing works at the Rotonda de San Isidro this Tuesday.

The project involves the construction of three lanes to enhance mobility in the area, with an expected completion by the end of October 2025 and an investment of 1.5 million euros.

Rosa Dávila explained that the works on the direct lane connecting the TF-642 and TF-64 towards the Médano will lead into the roundabout, representing a significant intervention aimed at alleviating congestion at a highly saturated junction.

Furthermore, Dávila noted that the direct lane to Médano addresses a longstanding request from residents, transporters, and visitors using these tourist routes, and will reduce travel times by 30% in an area that experiences daily traffic of approximately 12,400 vehicles.

These enhancements aim to prevent congestion at the Rotonda de San Isidro, especially during peak hours and on weekends, thereby improving road safety and offering greater fluidity for journeys to other coastal and tourist hotspots such as the tissue and red mountain, as indicated in a note from the town hall.

Additionally, during the visit, the island president and the mayor reviewed the progress on the rehabilitation works for the preferential Guaguas stop in San Isidro, which serves more than 8,000 passengers daily, averaging over 450 passengers in the early morning and more than 350 at night.

The focus of the works has been on upgrading the electrical installations of the infrastructure, in response to recorded voltage drops.

Charging Point for Electric Vehicles

In addition, the project includes the installation of a charging point for electric vehicles.

In this context, Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, highlighted that the Cabildo de Tenerife and Titsa have launched an ambitious plan to strengthen public transport in southern Tenerife, with particular emphasis on the municipality of Granadilla de Abona.

Among the new initiatives is line 114, which directly connects San Isidro with the Santa Cruz interchange since April 28, 2025, along with enhancements to line 450, which has increased its frequency to ensure seamless connections between San Isidro and Los Cristianos.

The mayor of Granadilla de Abona, José Domingo Regalado, expressed gratitude for the visit from the island president and the meeting with the municipal government team, aimed at addressing local issues.

Specifically, he mentioned mobility, the preferential stop in San Isidro, the involvement of Titsa in the board of directors, and the implementation of urban transport with microbuses serving various neighbourhoods.

Hydraulic Works

The president of the Cabildo and the mayor also observed the complementary works being conducted adjacent to the treatment plant, with completion expected by the end of this year.

Rosa Dávila stated that “this project will facilitate the distribution of all regenerated and treated water for agriculture, which is crucial to ensure there are no discharges into the coastal area.”

According to the president, “this significant project has an overall cost exceeding 40 million euros.”

In a similar vein, Minister of Natural Resources, Blanca Pérez, remarked that the hydraulic complex will mark a turning point for the region, as “this initiative will enable the regenerated waters from the already completed treatment plant to flow to the Granadilla reservoirs and contribute to the regenerated waters in southern Tenerife.”

Moreover, she noted that “we are collaborating with the City Council to promote waters from the coast, which will ensure there are no discharges and zero spills in the dock area, instead facilitating the transfer of all water to the treatment plant.”

For his part, José Domingo Regalado asserted that the initiatives for the regeneration of water and the treatment plant would resolve “the most significant problem faced in the last few decades in Granadilla de Abona, thereby preventing discharges with the commissioning of the purification plant this year, which will allow the recovery of blue flags.”

Likewise, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and the mayor of Granadilla discussed plans for a major care centre located on a 3,400-square-metre plot, which will provide 100 places for the elderly and 75 residential spots.
