SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 29. (Press Europa) –

Tenerife concluded the first quarter of the year with the lowest unemployment rate in the archipelago, standing at 12.61%, as per data from the Active Population Survey (EPA). This report also indicates a dominant position in the job market, with the island accounting for approximately 43% of total employment.

Consequently, the island now has a total of 436,420 individuals employed, having created 12,750 new jobs over the past year. The unemployment rate has improved to 12.61%, reflecting a decrease of 1.48 points compared to the same period in 2024 and positioning it below the regional average of 13.52%.

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has praised this data, emphasising that “Tenerife not only leads in employment numbers within the Canary Islands, but also enhances its work quality indicators, with lower unemployment and increased opportunities for our populace.”

She noted that these results “validate that the policies aimed at economic stimulation and job creation are bearing fruit.”

Tenerife’s employment rate is approximately 52%, a figure that improves alongside the rise in the active population, which now totals 499,390 individuals—an increase of 6,240 compared to last year—showcasing the dynamism and growing participation of individuals in the island’s labour market.

Moreover, unemployment has decreased by 6,510 individuals over the last year, solidifying the recovery trend in the job market, according to the council’s report.

The trend in youth employment in Tenerife also displays positive outcomes compared to the rest of the Canary Islands.

While the archipelago faces setbacks in employment and activity levels for those under 25, Tenerife has witnessed 2,380 more young individuals in employment, along with an additional 600 young people engaged compared to the first quarter of 2024.

The youth employment rate on the island remains stable, around 28.63%, showing resilience in comparison to other islands.

Dávila has highlighted the importance of continuing to invest in young people: “We are creating new opportunities for the younger generation, which is vital for ensuring the economic and social future of Tenerife. We will persist in promoting training, entrepreneurship, and employability programmes for the youth to foster an island of opportunities for all.”

The president has reiterated that Tenerife “is making steady progress towards a more robust and balanced labour market, reaffirming its role as the economic powerhouse of the Canary Islands in terms of both employment volume and improvements in work indicators.”
