Santa Cruz marks the celebration of its 531st anniversary with a comprehensive programme that, over the course of nearly a month, will blend tradition with modernity around “dearly loved festivities for which a calendar of events has been curated that undoubtedly embodies our identity and the essence of our capital,” as announced yesterday by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, during the event unveiling the activities for the May celebrations.

The mayor, along with the Councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, and the vice-councillor of the Government’s presidency, Alfonso Cabello, also revealed the promotional artwork for this edition, created by illustrator Arón Morales, which will accompany this city’s celebration until May 30.

The Councillor for Fiestas remarked, “the city will transform into the heart of traditions,” while Alfonso Cabello commended the City Council for “highlighting Canarian identity through our traditions.”

The festivities, which commenced yesterday with the proclamation by Caco Senante, will continue in the Plaza de la Candelaria with the selection galas for the adult and senior queens on Friday and Saturday, followed by the children’s magician event on Sunday. Additionally, the exhibition of flowers, plants, and crafts will return to García Sanabria from April 30 to May 5, alongside the Book Fair.

On the 2nd, at 9:00 p.m., the area around La Concepción will host the dance of magicians, which this year will extend into the surrounding streets with 720 tables available for purchase this Friday at 15 euros, via the event’s website. The 3rd will feature the Cruces Contest and a stroll along the Paseo de las Tinajas, including the school crossings. The events will culminate with the Tajaraste Festival, performances by the Gofions and Achamán, Raíz Flow, a night of comedy with Kike Pérez, Son21, the Bolero World Heart, and the Children’s Romero Walk, among other activities.
