Aitor Sanz: «The derby is one of those games that can mark your life»

In his ninth season at Tenerife and at the age of 37, Aitor Sanz heads to one more derby. The Blue and White captain is an expert in these duels. He has already been able to play eight. And wait for this Sunday as if it were the first. Overall, you are enjoying this promising campaign as if you were “a little child.”

It is not difficult for the midfielder to get in the fans’ placesy is clear that Sunday will be “a very special game”, a meeting that “can mark the sporting life” of any footballer. “It is not that it is a turning point, but it is an important moral boost for everyone,” he commented yesterday on the club’s official channels, wishing to celebrate the victory, an experience that he already lived in two of his eight clashes with UD, in 2013 ( 3-0) and in 2014 (2-1).

But he has the impression that the value of the triumph would be equivalent to taking another step into a “very exciting and positive season”, a campaign that he “wanted to live” and that he is “enjoying like a little child.”

Furthermore, a result in favor of Tenerife would represent the best «starting gun»In a brand new year that will include the club’s centennial date. “The best way would be to win the Unión Deportiva and, from there, complete a beautiful year for everyone, which is surely going to be,” predicted the Tenerife player.

Looking at the stands, Sanz trusts that there are few free seats left at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, within the restrictions imposed by the health authorities. Assuming that the priority is on “the safety and good health of all so that the world continues to walk and everyone can earn a living in a normal way”, Aitor did not overlook that both for the team and For the fans, “it is important to enjoy an event” such as the derby, which “occurs a few times in a year” and which this time includes the incentive of measuring two teams at the top of the table. “We would like there to be as many spectators as possible, always within the measures deemed appropriate by the competent bodies,” he said.

Regarding his performance, he acknowledged that he has gone through “ups and downs” due to injuries and lack of continuity in some sections of the season. But he also pointed out that he is getting closer to his best version, especially because he finds incentives every day. “The illusion pulls me,” he assured.
