The Cabildo de Tenerife is assessing the implementation of enhancements in camping sites situated in protected natural areas, with the aim of organising and upgrading the services available for motorhomes.

The Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Safety and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, along with the island director of the natural environment, Pedro Millán, recently met with representatives from Autocaravanism in the Canary Islands. This group comprises the Association of Friends of Nature, a caravanist group from La Palma; Caravanning Club La Palma-Isla Bonita, Camping Club and Caravanos Gran Canaria, Caravaning Club Chinec, Caravaning Club Tenerife, as well as friends of the Campers and Campers of the Canary Islands.

Blanca Pérez stated, “At the Cabildo, we are striving to organise and enhance an activity that has seen significant growth after the pandemic. We are exploring ways to upgrade our designated spaces and refurbish some of the existing areas. Furthermore, we are considering additional newly created sites to facilitate this activity, which has numerous enthusiasts not only in Tenerife but across the Canary Islands.”

She emphasises, “Our aim is to fundamentally enhance the services for users of camping areas, dependent on the location. We are also examining whether the clean points within the island’s network can accommodate the collection of grey and black water generated by these vehicles for subsequent treatment. We are pursuing that avenue to assess the feasibility. Additionally, we seek to improve the management of spaces for motorhomes to promote rational use by the public.”

The Ministry of Natural, Sustainability, Safety and Emergencies is currently investigating the potential to establish some areas in Granadilla, Vilaflor, and Anaga, along with upgrading spaces situated in the municipalities of Tacoronte and Guía de Isora.
