The Cabildo de Tenerife has commenced the refurbishment of the TF-28 as it traverses the Mirador de la Sentinela, located in the municipality of Arona. This project entails an investment of €1.6 million and is set to be completed within five months.
The contract for the works has been awarded to the construction firm Construcciones Darias, according to a statement from the corporation.
The focus of these works is on resurfacing and enhancing the quality of this route between Camella and the San Lorenzo Valley, which includes improvements to the footpaths and drainage systems.
They assure that this initiative has been agreed upon with the City Council, which has expressed concerns regarding events that take place along this route, such as the rally and the pilgrimage.
“We will persist in our efforts to ensure that the works are finished by mid-August,” remarked the road councillor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Dámaso Arteaga.
The first deputy mayor of Arona, Clara María Pérez, expressed her gratitude to the Cabildo for undertaking these “extremely important” works that the residents have been requesting for some time.
This initiative aligns with the overarching plan to rehabilitate and enhance mobility across the island’s road network.
Additional Projects
In this context, the council recalls that a total of 38 projects aimed at improving safety measures and rehabilitating the surfaces of the island’s roads have been put out to tender.
The planned actions encompass resurfacing, drainage improvements, signage, marking, and road safety features.
Additionally, these undertakings include slope and embankment stabilisation works on various roads of regional significance.
The value of these contracts exceeds €700,000. Consequently, the rehabilitation project will prioritise the renewal of critical signage, including pedestrian crossings, lane delimitations, directional arrows, and crossing markers, all of which have suffered considerable wear.
These indicators are crucial for guiding and alerting drivers, particularly at night when poor visibility can raise the likelihood of incidents.
Among the various projects, significant rehabilitation is also planned on the TF-1 motorway, specifically in the segment between Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar, with an allocation of €30 million covering approximately 24 kilometres.
These enhancements will involve the renovation of the road surface, the installation of sound barriers at the road edges, repainting existing signals, and the addition of safety barriers on a stretch frequented by over 50,000 vehicles daily.
