The streets of La Laguna were vibrant yesterday with devotion, tradition, and sacred artistry during the celebration of one of the significant days of Holy Week, known as Holy Thursday. This day marks the commencement of the Pascual Triduum, commemorating Jesus’s final supper with his disciples, while the Church also honours the day of brotherly love. Alongside the customary processions associated with this day, the faithful took the opportunity to visit local churches to appreciate the Eucharistic monuments, which hold a long-standing tradition in the municipality of La Laguna.

The Pascual Triduum commenced with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper held at the Cathedral at 5:30 p.m., presided over by Diocesan administrator Antonio Pérez. Following this, the procession of the Blessed Sacrament proceeded to the monument.
Later, around 8:00 p.m., the passage of the Holy Supper, featuring Jesus and the twelve Apostles, sculpted by Antonio de Orbarán in 1664, made its way through the streets. This passage is among the oldest in the Canary Islands and was accompanied by the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament along with the penitential group of the Holy Supper.

Simultaneously, from the parish of Santo Domingo, the steps of the Holy Christ of Humility and Patience, in the company of the brotherhood of Penitents of Mercy, along with Our Lady of Solitude and her venerable Brotherhood of the Blessed Rosary, proceeded through the streets. Both steps merged with the procession of the Holy Supper after reaching Viana Street, which had commenced from the Cathedral.

Good Friday

The event continues today, Good Friday, featuring some of the most significant processions of the Holy Week in La Laguna. The first procession departs at 4:00 a.m. from the Sanctuary of Christ, followed by the Magna procession at 5:00 p.m. from the Cathedral, and lastly, the solemn processional of silence, taking place at 10:00 p.m., also from the Cathedral.
