The Cabildo de Tenerife, in partnership with the councils of Buenavista and Santiago del Teide, has launched today a discretionary transport service for mandatory travellers for all hikers and visitors wishing to explore the Masca ravine, as announced earlier this month.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, emphasises that “this initiative, developed from the Rural Park of Teno, aims to regulate arrivals, alleviate congestion, and enhance safety for both visitors and locals, while also freeing up parking spaces.” “The objective is to achieve sustainable and tourism-compatible mobility to protect the delicate natural environment and preserve the significant ecological value of Masca,” she stated.
The use of this service is compulsory for individuals accessing the Masca Barranco road, which will be controlled by the Visitors Centre. Tickets will be available solely through the official website Caminobarrancodemasca.com, and the cost of transport will be added to the entry fee for the ravine. Without a validated entry ticket on the bus, access to the ravine will not be permitted. Thus, individuals arriving in Masca without using this service will be unable to traverse the ravine.
The newly mandated discretionary transport service will function on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (the only days when the ravine can be descended and ascended) from 07:00 to 14:00, with departures every 20 minutes from the collection point in Santiago del Teide, precisely at the existing Titsa stop adjacent to the City Council building.
Furthermore, the local council has designated parking at the municipal cemetery, where visitors can leave their private vehicles and proceed to the stop, where a bus with a capacity for 18 passengers will be available.
Prices
The ticket prices and the Guagua service differ based on the visitor’s residence. Adults and children residing in Tenerife will not incur any charges for the descent into the Masca ravine or for the mandatory transport. Adult residents of the Canary Islands will need to pay 3 euros for entry plus 4 euros for the bus, whereas children will pay 1.5 euros and 2 euros, respectively.
For adults not residing in the Canary Islands, the costs will be 28 euros for entry, plus 10 euros for transport, while children will be charged 14 euros, in addition to 5 euros for the La Guagua ticket.
