Teide National Park Faces Nearly 100 Complaints for Violations This Year

The Environmental Agents, Canarian Police, and Civil Guard have registered 98 reports this year concerning environmental violations in Teide National Park, as communicated on Wednesday by the Cabildo de Tenerife. They will initiate a dedicated surveillance and oversight operation in natural areas during Easter.

The statistics were provided by the second vice president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, José Miguel Ruano, who noted that the reports in Teide National Park stemmed from issues such as illegal parking, unauthorised activities in a protected natural area, unapproved vehicle use on forest tracks, and camping without the necessary permits.

Comparatively, in 2024, the number of reported activities in Teide National Park surged from 100 to 262 in contrast to 2023, owing to the efforts of the Environmental Agents, Canarian Police, and Civil Guard, Ruano mentioned.

In this context, the Vice President stated that a special operation for surveillance and traffic management in specific natural areas of the island has been launched, involving civil guard units, local police from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna, Canarian Police, and Cabildo Environmental Agents for the Easter period.

This operation commenced last Friday and is structured to ensure a consistent police presence in Teide National Park (Portillo-Los Azulejos section), Anaga Rural Park (Cruz del Carmen and Taganana), and Rural Park of Teno (Masca).

Additionally, during Easter, public transport has been enhanced with the activation of line 948, which connects the centre of Azanos with the beaches of Almáciga and Benijos.

This service has been running since the previous weekend and will continue throughout the Easter holidays.
