SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –
The Insular Water Council (CIATF), an entity linked to the Cabildo de Tenerife, is set to reissue the tender for the rehabilitation works of the submarine emissary at Punta Brava under emergency procedures next week. Proposals will be accepted throughout May for subsequent awarding.
The project entails an investment of 2.7 million euros with a timeline for completion set at 16 months.
Current legislation governing public sector contracting necessitates various certifications and accreditations for bidding firms wishing to undertake such works. These requirements are so stringent that some interested companies lacked the necessary documents, resulting in them not participating, according to a statement from the council.
In instances where the tender is left unattended, the legislation permits easing some technical criteria, albeit without compromising technical capability to ensure the effective execution of the project, explains the corporation.
Consequently, adjustments have been made to these requirements, aiming to afford more companies the opportunity to submit bids and undertake the works promptly.
The emissary works fall under the initiatives to enhance water treatment, which also include the establishment of a new wastewater treatment facility in the Valley of La Orotava (Phase I). This plant is expected to cater to 102,000 residents from the municipalities of La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, and Santa Úrsula.
The project involves the replacement of the submarine emissary at Punta Brava over a 240-metre stretch, which is currently constructed from polyester reinforced with fiberglass (prfv) and contains a fissure. This will be replaced with a new high-density polyethylene (Pead) structure, thus improving the current discharge situation.
Additionally, the replacement of covers within the emissary section is planned, where prefabricated blocks serving as anchors have deteriorated. New ballast blocks will also be anchored in the diffuser area due to the poor condition of the existing ones.
