Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 14 Apr. (Press Europa) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, via the Island Company of Crafts, has announced the registration for a new training segment that encompasses courses in traditional artisan crafts.

This initiative is a crucial component of the 2025 craft training strategy, developed in collaboration with the Ibero-American Handicraft Museum of Tenerife (MAIT) and the local authorities of Candelaria and La Orotava.

Individuals interested in participating can pre-register online on the island’s handicraft website from April 21, as stated by the Cabildo.

This announcement was made during a press conference on Monday, attended by the Minister of Education and Employment, Efraín Medina; the Manager of the Island Company of Crafts, Ricardo Cologan; and Domingo Reyes, a member of the Educational Department of the Ibero-American Craft Museum (MAIT).

Efraín Medina articulated that this initiative “is aimed at both the general public through introductory courses and at students currently enrolled in previous craft training programs who possess prior knowledge of the trade.”

He further explained that the purpose “is to preserve, protect, and pass on the understanding of our heritage. We are not speaking of crafts on the verge of extinction, but rather of those in the midst of revitalisation, and we are committed to this endeavour.”

These courses will feature face-to-face training, allowing students to gain first-hand experience in various traditional artisan trades.

Additionally, the work produced in these different courses will be showcased during commemorative events for ‘Insular Craft Day’, providing participants with the opportunity to present their creations to a wider audience.

The courses, categorised into three levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—cover areas such as the creation of percussion instruments; traditional pottery; cutlery; preparation of traditional apparel; embroidery on traditional garments; and illustrations of traditional attire.

A new edition of the advanced course on the crafting and preparation of rosettes will also be included.

This training initiative is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and enhancing the artisan professions of Tenerife, aiming to cultivate new artisans while renewing and updating the skills of existing ones. It places special emphasis on traditional trades, addressing the need for generational transitions and long-term sustainability. This is essential, as these trades are rich in cultural and heritage value, necessitating such initiatives to secure the cultural legacy and ensure a seamless generational handover.
