Valverde (El Hierro), 13 (Europa Press)

Maritime rescue has successfully conducted the rescue this Sunday of 70 migrants, all of whom are sub-Saharan, from a Cayuco located 6 miles away from the port of La Restinga in El Hierro.

At approximately 09:00, the Civil Guard reported an echo, indicating a potential patera or Cayuco, to the maritime rescue centre in Tenerife. Consequently, they mobilised the Salvamar as well as the LS Mike 02 of the Red Cross.

By 9:30 am, Salvamar located the Cayuco, which had come to a standstill and was unable to restart. This vessel was carrying around 70 individuals, including 3 women and a minor.

The migrants have since disembarked at La Restinga, as noted by the state agency.
