SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has notified this Tuesday a total of 3,959 positive cases of coronavirus, the highest number of infections since the pandemic began and that brings the total number to 138,871.

In total there are 32,847 active cases, of which 67 are in the ICU (+5) and 327 in the ward (-4).

In addition, there have been three deaths that bring the total number of deaths in the archipelago to 1,118.

Specifically, they are two 78 and 74-year-old men with previous pathologies and a 40-year-old woman with no known prior pathologies, and all three remained in hospital.

The Ministry attributes this notable increase in the number of new positives to the consolidation of the data of the holidays that the General Directorate of Public Health carries out of the cases notified provisionally in the past holidays and the predominance of the Omicron variant in Canarias, which has 70 percent more propagation capacity than previous variants.

By islands, Tenerife once again leads the contagions with 2,314 cases this Tuesday that increase its active cases to 19,142 – almost 60% of the archipelago – and the accumulated to 69,514 cases while Gran Canaria notifies 1,193 cases and places the accumulated in 50,009, 9,624 of them active.

Lanzarote adds 204 cases this Tuesday that bring its accumulated to 9,335, of which 1,460 are active, and Fuerteventura registers 112 new infections that increase its active cases to 1,859 and those accumulated to 6,816 infections.

La Palma, for its part, adds 79 cases that increase their accumulated to 1,853, of which 407 are still active; La Gomera reports 42 cases, raising its accumulated to 755, with 260 active and El Hierro adds 14 cases, with 584 accumulated and 92 active.

The Accumulated Incidence (AI) continues to rise and stands at 841.42 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 7 days and 1,332.43 cases at 14 days.

Until this Tuesday, a total of 2,691,429 diagnostic tests have been carried out on the islands with a positive rate of 19.21% of which 17,313 correspond to this Monday.
