Santa Cruz de Tenerife 11 Apr. (Press Europa) –

The Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES) 112, operating under the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Canary Islands Government, has initiated a prevention campaign aimed at providing self-protection advice to mitigate risks and understand how to respond in emergency situations during the activities held over this holiday period.

With the slogan ‘This Holy Week, prioritise your safety’, this initiative will be promoted through the @112canarias profiles on both X and Instagram platforms, offering citizens of the Canary Islands straightforward self-protection advice to ensure they can enjoy a worry-free holiday.

These recommendations will target activities conducted at sea or along the coastline of the islands, ensuring safety during marine excursions, providing guidance for mountain pursuits, offering advice for attending large events such as Holy Week processions, and addressing potential household accidents. Additional tips for road travel will be included, given the increased volume of departures and arrivals during the holiday period.

Supporting materials will comprise audiovisual content and links to the Canary Islands government website, allowing the public to gain more detailed insights into appropriate actions in various scenarios that may arise.

The campaign will emphasise adherence to beach signage before entering the water, strict compliance with lifeguard instructions, effective communication with 112 for emergency response assistance, and appropriate actions to take in the event of an incident during the festivities across the archipelago.

For instance, when attending processions, it is advisable to remain in a safe area without exceeding the security boundaries set by the organisers, and always ensure that minors are accounted for.

Furthermore, for those opting to enjoy the coast, it is crucial not to dive into the water without knowing the depth and to swim parallel to the shoreline to avoid straying from the designated bathing zones.

In terms of mountain activities, it is vital to wear suitable clothing and footwear, while also sticking to marked routes and trails. Conversely, if resting at home, safeguarding children from potential hazards is imperative to prevent accidents, such as ensuring they cannot access stairs, balconies, and windows.

Therefore, they reiterate the importance of caution during road travel, and in the event of an emergency, it is crucial to remain calm and promptly contact 112 for assistance.
