Santa Cruz de Tenerife 11 Apr. (Press Europa) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife marked the ‘International Day of Parkinson’s’ this Friday with the presentation of a manifesto crafted by the Spanish Federation of Parkinson’s, which encompasses Parkinson Tenerife along with 70 other organisations throughout the country.

The Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, led the event, joined by the president of Parkinson Tenerife, Gladys Arteaga, and its director, Nayra González, along with various other officials. They emphasised the necessity for effective health coordination, specialised care, and increased investment in research to pave the way for new treatments and enhance the quality of life for those living with the condition.

This year’s manifesto aimed to “amplify the voice to highlight a reality that impacts individuals diagnosed with this condition, prejudice, as society persists in associating this illness with misleading stereotypes, neglecting the diverse symptoms and various experiences of those who manage it at different stages of life.”

Parkinson’s is a chronic neurological disorder that affects over 8.5 million people globally, 160,000 in Spain, and more than 14,000 in the Canary Islands, according to a statement from the Cabildo.
