The Cabildo de Tenerife has reopened the access to the footpaths leading to the Teide peak for registered mountain enthusiasts, accredited professionals, and tourism companies, which must comply with specific requirements.
Individuals with a valid federative mountain card are required to possess essential winter gear (technical attire, crampons, and an ice axe). Additionally, they must register on the Tenerife On app and submit the necessary permission request, as indicated by the Corporation in a statement.
Access is also granted to companies and individuals engaged in freely practising their profession, registered in the Tourism Registry of the Canary Islands Government, for hiking, mountaineering, and trekking activities in Tenerife. They may guide and accompany groups of up to a maximum of 15 individuals per guide.
Consequently, guides are required to hold accreditation to operate within the Teide National Park and the appropriate qualifications for this professional activity.
All participants in the activity (both guides and visitors) must possess mandatory basic winter gear (technical attire, crampons, and an ice axe). They will also need to register on the Tenerife On app.
Access Control to the Teide Peak
The Cabildo established an online reservation system in January 2025 through the Tenerife On (App or Website) for the Teide – Pico Viejo – Mirador of the Noses of the Teide and PNT 32 Abeque, Path PNT 23 The black regattas and PNT 28 Chafarí.
Moreover, to access Path No. 10 Telesforo Bravo, which connects the Rambleta with the Teide Summit, a permit is required, which can be processed through the National Parks Reserve Central: www.revasparquesnacional.es.
The Cabildo de Tenerife has emphasised that these paths are of considerable difficulty, thus unsuitable for individuals lacking experience in high-altitude terrains or those with heart, respiratory, or mobility issues.
As a result, they remind visitors that access is prohibited without appropriate long trousers (post or backpack) and a fleece jacket. The use of specialised mountain footwear is mandatory, alongside carrying water or hydration solutions, a mobile phone, and a torch or headlamp with batteries (especially if the activity will take place in the evening or early morning).
Additionally, during the winter months, it is compulsory to carry gloves and a hat.
