The president of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, has urged his counterpart at the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, to “pay more attention” to his proposal for the expansion of the Port of Los Cristianos – one of the options highlighted in the latest report by the College of Engineers – and to “make decisions” before the maritime transport with the ‘Green Islands’ descends into chaos.
In comments made during the ‘Good Morning Canary’ programme on Televisión Canaria, as reported by Europa Press, he reminded that Dávila served as the general director of Transport for the Canary Islands Government for twelve years and “had the opportunity” to initiate this project.
Curbelo has reiterated the importance of “consensus and common sense” and pointed out that those who have been involved in the area’s planning over the past decades have now “rejected” both a scaled-down version of the port at Fonsalía (Guía de Isora) and the expansion of Los Cristianos.
The president of La Gomera underscored a “lack of common sense and accountability” as well as “total inconsistency” among those engaged in the planning, expressing his refusal to “wait an additional 20 years” as this would result in “chaos” at the port.
He believes that there is a pressing need for “urgent planning” concerning the extension of Los Cristianos port and the underground work at Chayofita Avenue.
