A total of ten cruises carrying 21,107 passengers are set to arrive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife between 14th and 20th April, coinciding with Holy Week, as announced by the mayor of the capital of Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez.
The arrival of these ten vessels is expected to have “a significant economic effect” on the city, as it will bolster the commercial landscape of the area. Bermúdez stated that “this is a unique opportunity for local establishments to see an increase in the demand for their products and services.”
The CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, elaborated that notable cruises such as Aidaprata, which can accommodate 3,286 guests; Celebrity Apex, with a capacity for 3,200 passengers; and Mein Schiff 7, which hosts up to 2,894 individuals, will be docking in the capital.
“The thousands of passengers who ultimately arrive aboard these vessels are likely to spend in our local shops, providing a significant boost to the Santa Cruz economy,” she remarked.
Pérez further emphasised that in recent years, cruise tourism has been gaining increasing importance in the municipality, primarily due to the economic contributions these tourists make to local establishments. Travellers are, in addition, “a crucial element in promoting Santa Cruz as a destination.”
Moreover, she mentioned that the arrival of cruise ships at the capital’s port has been discussed within the Interdepartmental Tourism Commission, aimed at enhancing the safety, cleanliness, and mobility measures on days with high cruise traffic. This will ensure effective coordination among various sector players to deliver optimal service.
