Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 10 April (Europa Press) –
The president of the Cabildo de la Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, has urged his counterpart at the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, to “pay more attention” to “his proposal for the expansion of the port of Los Cristianos – one of the options outlined in the latest report from the College of Engineers – and to “make decisions” before the maritime transport situation with the ‘green islands’ deteriorates further.
In remarks made on the ‘Good Morning Canarian’ programme on Televisión Canaria, which were noted by Europa Press, he recalled that Dávila had previously served as the general director of Transport for the Canary Islands Government for twelve years and “had the chance” to initiate this project.
Curbelo has emphasised the need for “consensus and common sense” and has pointed out that those involved in the area’s planning over the past decades have now rejected both a scaled-back version of the port of Fonsalía (Guía de Isora) and the expansion of Los Cristianos.
The president from La Gomera highlighted a “lack of common sense and responsibility” and a “total inconsistency” from those engaged in the planning process, asserting that he will not “wait another 20 years” due to the impending “chaos” at the port.
He believes that “urgent planning” for the expansion of the port of Los Cristianos and the underground section of Chayofita Avenue is essential.
