Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to portray the Swiss city of Zurich, at least in segments of the filming for Day Drinker, a film that has attracted both Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz to the island. After filming in various locations across the island, today the focus shifts to Santa Cruz, where posters have already been placed to transform the streets into the Swiss city.
Directed by Marc Webb, the film will immerse viewers in a storyline filled with suspense and intrigue, centred around a bartender working on a cruise whose journey takes an unforeseen turn upon meeting a mysterious woman who enjoys drinking during the day. The narrative unfolds along the coasts of France, Portugal, and Spain, promising a blend of stunning landscapes and an engaging storyline.
The selection of the archipelago as a significant filming location is attributed to its natural beauty and the benefits afforded by the Canarian Special Zone (ZEC), a tax incentive that has rendered the islands one of the most appealing hubs for the global audiovisual sector.
With Day Drinker, Depp and Cruz join the expanding roster of world-class artists who have filmed in the Canary Islands, further establishing the region as a go-to filming location in Europe.
