The tourist delegation from Tenerife is participating in the ‘Routes Europe’ conference, which will take place until Thursday in Seville. The aim is to reinforce the island’s connectivity and establish it as an international hub due to its strategic location among three continents.
The vice president and Tourism advisor of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, states in a release that connectivity is a “crucial pillar” in the management of the destination, and the team is pursuing “every opportunity” to enhance routes and connections to “boost the destination and enrich the variety of markets with which Tenerife is operating with a high level of satisfaction.”
Afonso further remarks that “enhancing air connectivity is vital for diversifying tourism, bolstering the local economy, and creating jobs in Tenerife.”
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, confirms during the event that Tenerife is “attracting the interest” of nearly all the airlines in attendance.
“This fair demonstrates the positive development of the air connectivity strategy implemented by the Cabildo de Tenerife through Tourism of Tenerife,” he elaborates.
Melwani also emphasises the addition of new flight frequencies in markets aligned with tourism positioning and reflects on the “positive outcome” from the first month of the campaign launched with Air Europa, coinciding with the Miami-Madrid-Tenerife route, which yielded 1,350,292 impressions, 400,659 in reach, and 14,024 clicks to the website.
“These figures indicate a strong interest from the American market, not just for the direct route but also for indirect traffic generated via the hub in Madrid,” states the CEO of the organisation.
The island has conducted discussions with major airlines, including Lot Polish, Air Baltic, SAS, Air France, Transavia, Aer Lingus, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Ita Airways, Air Canada, Binter, Air Europa, and Vueling, among others.
Significant developments for Tenerife resulting from these meetings include Air France’s commitment to adding the destination to its network this December, alongside Lot Polish’s increased winter frequency connecting Warsaw to Tenerife.
Additionally, Transavia, part of the Air France-KLM group, is increasing its frequency of operations from Paris-Orly and Nantes.
These meetings will provide an opportunity to share exclusive information about the sector and its current circumstances with route planners and industry developers, aimed at attracting new connectivity to the destination and strengthening existing partnerships with Tenerife.
In 2024, Tenerife will maintain connectivity with 29 markets and 154 national and international airports.
Among the new connections for the year are flights from the airports of Brest (France), Ibiza (Spain), León (Spain), and Örebro (Sweden).
