The Department of Citizen Security and Emergencies of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) due to rain, which is currently under alert from 00:00 on Wednesday, 9 April. This measure is in response to the declaration of alert issued by the General Emergency Department of the Canary Islands Government concerning this weather event. Furthermore, the Government of the Canary Islands has announced pre-alerts for coastal phenomena (commencing at 00:00), storms (starting at 06:00), and high winds (from 12:00), all applicable to Wednesday, 9 April.
This circumstance has led various municipal services to initiate precautionary measures to mitigate any potential risks to the public, such as inspecting drains, reviewing ravine channels, and securing items in communal areas.
Additionally, it is important to note that the protocol for aiding the homeless has been put into action, both via mobile outreach units (UMA) and the Municipal Reception Centre.
The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife urges citizens, upon the activation of the alert, to adopt a proactive stance by heeding safety advice related to such risks, following guidance from authorities, and staying informed through official channels and media outlets.
Any incidents arising from these weather events that may be of public interest will be communicated by the Citizen Security and Capital Emergencies through their regular channels or via their X (formerly Twitter) account @Cecopalscsc.
