The Vice President of the Canary Islands Government, the popular Manuel Domínguez, has urged the Spanish Government to cease confronting society with unaccompanied migrants and to adhere to the Supreme Court’s ruling, which mandates the accommodation of approximately 1,000 of these young asylum seekers.
This statement was made on Saturday during remarks to the press at the launch of the second edition of the Supernova Congress in the municipality of Arona (Tenerife).
“The Supreme Court has stated that in just 10 days [the Government] must take action that should have been taken over a year ago. This has caused us unnecessary distress and suffering during this period. It is something that defies explanation,” he remarked.
In this context, Domínguez stressed that the sole motivation behind the actions of the State regarding migrant minors is “the situation I have been highlighting for some time.”
“That is,” he added, “to confront society, the autonomous communities, political parties and, along the way, if feasible, to undermine the partnership within the Canary Islands government (between CC and PP), which they have yet to achieve, despite meeting their other objectives.”
