Travelling to Tenerife with Nicotine Products: What Are the Rules?

Taking snus, nicotine pouches, or a vape to Tenerife? Here’s what to know before you go.

Snus and Nicotine Pouches

Spain has strict rules on nicotine. Especially for products you put in your mouth.

Snus is banned from sale in Spain. It has tobacco in it, and Spanish law doesn’t allow that.

But if you’re visiting, you can bring a small amount for personal use.

Don’t go overboard. A few cans in your bag is okay. More could look like you plan to sell it.

Nicotine pouches are allowed if they don’t have tobacco. These are easier to bring.

Keep all products in their original packs. Don’t mix them or repackage.

Always carry them in your hand luggage, not checked bags. That helps avoid issues at customs.

There’s no clear limit, but if it looks like too much, you could get stopped.

Declare any snus at customs. It shows you’re being honest.

Most locals don’t know what snus is. If a guard checks your bag, be ready to explain.

If you’re used to using snus or pouches daily, bring enough. You probably won’t find them in Tenerife, even in bigger towns.

Supermarkets and pharmacies don’t usually stock them. Only a few shops in tourist spots might carry them, and even then, it’s rare.

Vaping Rules in Tenerife

Vaping is legal in Spain. But there are rules.

You can’t vape indoors. That includes bars, restaurants, shops, public transport, and airports.

Some outdoor spots are also off-limits. Parks, schools, or places near hospitals might have signs.

Always check before you vape. When in doubt, ask someone nearby.

You’re allowed to bring e-cigarettes, pods, and vape juice for personal use.

There’s no set number, but don’t bring loads. Large amounts may be seen as suspicious.

If your e-liquid has nicotine, it can’t be stronger than 20 mg/ml. Each bottle must be 10 ml or less. This is an EU rule.

All vape gear and batteries must go in your carry-on bag. Not in your checked suitcase.

Turn off your device during the flight. Store it in a case if you have one.

Spare batteries should also be packed safely. Airlines may check.

Finding vape supplies in Tenerife isn’t easy. Some vape shops are around, but only in busy areas.

Don’t count on gas stations or supermarkets to have what you need. Most don’t sell vape stuff.

If you use a certain type of device or liquid, bring enough for the whole trip.

Quick Tips Before You Fly:

  • Bring only what you’ll use.

  • Keep it legal and visible.

  • Be ready to explain what you have.

  • Don’t rely on buying more in Tenerife.
