Santa Cruz de Tenerife 4 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, through the Public Services Department, has opted to restrict access to García Sanabria Park in order to conduct a thorough examination of all the trees within the area and thus ensure public safety.
This decision was made following the impact of storm ‘Nuria’, which subjected the city to severe winds.
The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, stated in a report that the safety of residents is the “primary concern”. Hence, they have chosen to maintain restricted access to García Sanabria Park until a “comprehensive assessment” of the tree population in this popular city space is completed.
“It is crucial to ascertain that there are no risks stemming from strong winds and adverse weather conditions that we might have encountered yesterday,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, emphasises that the park’s closure is a precautionary action to uphold safety.
“We have installed appropriate signage at the entrances to the park to prevent access while we conduct our inspection of the trees. We understand how significant this park is for the community, but at this moment, safety takes precedence. We will examine each tree and will reopen the park once we can assure there is no danger,” he conveyed.
The Council appeals to the public for cooperation in adhering to the signage and access limitations, reminding everyone that the park’s reopening will hinge on the outcomes of the ongoing inspections.
