The Government will provide an update at 10:00 p.m. and the Islands will advance to a state of Prealert due to wind

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, APR. (Europa Press) –

The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112 of the Canary Islands Government has, to date, recorded 290 incidents across the Canary Islands resulting from the passage of the Nuria Borrasca, which has been affecting the archipelago since this morning.

In the province of Las Palmas, 149 incidents have been addressed, while Santa Cruz de Tenerife has reported a total of 141, as indicated by the Regional Department in an official statement.

During the afternoon, these incidents have largely concentrated in the metropolitan area of Tenerife, associated with fallen trees, fences and walls obstructing roads, alongside some fallen streetlights in both the northern and southern regions of the island.

On La Palma, although there have been issues with electricity supply, fallen telephone poles, and some palm incidents, the overall number of incidents has significantly reduced.

Conversely, in Gran Canaria, municipalities in the North and West continue to experience some landslides, fallen trees, and streetlights, as well as electricity supply issues.

The roads in the Western Islands and Gran Canaria have encountered some temporary closures due to landslides predominantly, alongside fallen trees and branches, resulting in electricity and telecommunication interruptions. In Gran Canaria, the GC-702 and the GC-200 remain closed.

Regarding personal injuries, apart from two individuals who sustained minor injuries this morning due to wind-related incidents, there have been no medical interventions related to this meteorological event during the afternoon.

The Canary Islands Government has reminded the public that until normality is restored, it is essential to adhere to the self-protection advice provided by official authorities and resources.

Forecasts

The General Emergency Department of the Canary Islands Government will offer an update starting at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, transitioning to a state of Pre-Heavy Wind in the Canary Islands, as the forecast for moderate winds remains from the west, with gusts potentially becoming strong.

Furthermore, the prealert for rain on the islands will cease, while an alert for coastal phenomena will continue to be enforced across the archipelago.

Additionally, the wind prealert will remain in effect to ensure continued monitoring of the incidents recorded today until conditions normalise.

The Executive has also advised that any activities scheduled for this Friday and over the weekend should be reviewed in advance to ensure the stability of the infrastructure.
