Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The Headquarters of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting an interministerial meeting to address the allocation of unaccompanied minors seeking asylum, following a Supreme Court ruling mandating the central government to resolve this within ten days.
The meeting is scheduled to commence at 09:00, with attendance from the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, alongside the Ministers of Territorial Policy and Migration, Ángel Víctor Torres and Elma Saiz, respectively. The head of childhood and youth, Sira Rego, along with senior officials from the Ministry of the Interior, will participate remotely.
A significant disparity between the two governments lies in the Canary Islands’ position that the over 1,200 asylum seekers should not be included in the distribution as stipulated by the decree reforming immigration law, as they consider it a matter of state jurisdiction. Conversely, the central government aims to incorporate them into this distribution.
