The government of the Canary Islands advises its personnel on the islands of Tenerife and La Palma to work from home during the duration of the maximum alert due to adverse weather conditions linked to the arrival of the Borrasca Nuria.

On both islands, the Autonomous Community has declared a Maximum alert as very strong winds are anticipated, with gusts potentially reaching Hurricane force exceeding 110-130 km/h.

Additionally, the State Meteorology Agency has issued orange alerts for gale-force winds across five islands (La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, and the north of Gran Canaria), although the most hazardous conditions are expected on the eastern side of La Palma, where a red alert has been declared (extreme risk).

For the Justice Administration employees in La Palma and Tenerife, those unable to work from home are advised to remain at home, halting any non-urgent processes and only attending the office “in cases of force majeure.”

In communications directed at the General Administration staff of the Autonomous Community, telework is recommended for staff on the two islands under the maximum alert.

The Registration offices in La Palma and Tenerife will remain closed throughout Thursday; however, users can submit documentation electronically. In general, citizen services have been suspended on both islands.

Excluded from this recommendation are non-university educational institutions, health facilities, social and healthcare centres, the general body of the Canarian police, and the justice administration, which will follow their own directives.

Specifically for those in the legal field, staff are encouraged to stay at home but must remain reachable by phone and await instructions from court officials.

In circumstances where the recommendation to avoid attending the workplace except for force majeure does not apply to “those providing guard services for various judicial and/or fiscal bodies, as well as necessary personnel for the issuance of burial certificates at civil registries.”

The peace courts will be closed this Thursday in both La Palma and Tenerife, although users may access their electronic headquarters if needed.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education has decided to cancel face-to-face classes this Thursday on three islands: La Palma, Tenerife, and La Graciosa.
