The Los Realejos Town Hall announces that it will create a park of dragon trees in several plots totaling about 2,792 square meters acquired in the historic complex of Low Realejo. The objective of the local government (PP) is to offer “a green and tourist lung in the historic center of Low Realejo, between buildings of patrimonial value ». This initiative is linked to the recent acquisition of a large house between La Acequia and Toste streets, where it is planned to enable the interpretation center of this area of the municipality.

The mayor of Los Realejos, Manuel Domínguez (PP), announces that this purchase of plots intends to guarantee the ineffectiveness in the area and the development of a free space that complements the future interpretation center of Realejo Bajo.

Domínguez has negotiated with the Government of the Canary Islands the approval of an amendment to the next general budgets of the autonomous community that guarantees for the year 2022 a regional subsidy to Los Realejos Town Hall for the drafting of the rehabilitation project of the aforementioned historical property, house museum and park. “An investment that will make it possible to have a technical document that promotes the award and development of this idea in favor of the conservation and heritage dissemination of the environment, and the creation of a unique environmental space for the enhancement of dragon trees”, he advances .

In his opinion, «these previous acquisitions and the future project will prevent the buildability of this environment between theLa Acequia, Toste and Márquez streets, is a direct measure of conservation of the existing heritage landscape in the historic complex, since new constructions in the block will be avoided and the possible coexistence of new volumes of buildings is eliminated, which could distort the cultural identity of the entire city. environment”.

The aforementioned house museum and adjacent historical park will have as a common thread the historical references from the aboriginal stage to The Treasury of the Princes, as well as subsequent development.

The Councilor for Historical Heritage, Isabel Socorro, recalls that «this was one of the actions contemplated in the pre-diagnosis of the special plan for the protection of the historic complex of Low Realejo, prepared by the International Center for the Conservation of Heritage (Cicop), which placed special emphasis on the conservation of this green space as such, also coinciding with requests made by residents of the area showing their concern about the future possibility of construction of new homes that break the aesthetics and protection of the environment.

The Councilor for Recruitment, Noelia Gonzalez, alludes to “a set of previous steps, let me qualify them as invisible, to which a priori we do not give importance, but which involve firm and determined steps, the first to be taken and then developed, in a clear political line as it is the commitment to the patrimonial and environmental conservation of the environment, the recovery for public use including a pedestrian walkway between La Acequia and Márquez streets or the search for new opportunities for tourist and economic attraction for Los Realejos “.

“From the previous procedures and negotiations to the materialization of the historic property last September and now in December of these neighboring lands, also achieving the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands in the drafting of the project, the idea is getting closer and closer. starting from having a Interpretation Center of the aforementioned area of Realejo Bajo with that double aspect of house museum and park of dragos “, details the mayor.
